1. The chihuahua originates from the Toltec civilization
According to the FCI standard  the Chihuahua is a wild dog that was captured and domesticated during the time of the Toltec civilization . It is one of the pre-Columbian cultures present during the X and XII centuries .
Some theories affirm that the ancestors of the present chihuahua lived in Tula ( Tollan-Xicocotitlan ) in the state of Hidalgo, in Mexico. This theory is based on the well-known figure of “Techichi” , who is considered the forerunner of the current Chihuahua breed.
2. Chihuahua personality – one of the bravest dogs
The Chihuahua stands out as an alert dog  and very brave  as the FCI and AKC indicate, respectively. He is also considered an intelligent, vivacious, devout, restless, sociable and faithful dog .

In an article  of the Universities Federation for Animal Welfare on genetic problems of chihuahua, primary hydrocephalus (presence of water in the brain) is mentioned as one of the most common congenital diseases.
Hydrocephalus causes pressure and pain in the dog’s brain as well as a decrease in the thickness of the skull bones. This disease is associated with the small size that some breeds have.
6. It is the smallest dog in the world
The Chihuahua is the smallest dog in the world , both in height and length. According to Guinness World Records , the smallest (long) live dog  is Brandy a female chihuahua that measures 15.2 cm from the tip of the nose to the tail. He lives in Florida, United States.
It is also recorded that the smallest living dog (tall)  is another female chihuahua named Miracle Milly, which measures 9.65 cm. He lives in Dorado, Puerto Rico.

The specimens of long hair have a silky coat, thin and slightly wavy, also have an inner layer. The most noticeable feature is the presence of long hair on the ears, neck, extremities, feet and tail. Those who have short hair have short fur and occasionally an inner layer.
10. Have a great life expectancy
The chihuahua is one of the dogs with the longest life expectancy. A relatively few years ago, it was believed that these dogs lived between 12 and 18 years, but currently we can find Chihuahua dogs that are over 20 years old .
