There is a happy ending for Georgia the cat, pictured, above, and her owner, Ashley Phillips. Georgia, who escaped from her carrier on her way home from the vet’s, was lost in the NYC subway system for three weeks. The little black cat was rescued Saturday night by two transit workers and a ConEd meter reader.

Georgia broke her back leg somehow during her ordeal, and she was also dehydrated and weak. She’s currently being stabilized at a NYC animal hospital until she can undergo surgery to set her leg.

The two transit workers, Mark Dalessio and Efrain LaPorte, and Con Ed meter reader Christopher Cuddy will split a $1500 reward. $1000 came from the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, Inc., and $500 came from an anonymous donor connected with a rescue group called City Critters, Inc. Mr. Cuddy, who plans to donate his share of the reward to the ASPCA, is the man who first sighted Georgia last week when he was working in the subway system.
